A Letter to the Region

Ultra-Luxury Tourism & Ultra-Luxury Real Estate, under the region’s own name

اقرأ الرسالة بالعربية ‹

To the leaders, the builders and the people of the Middle East: with respect, and with admiration for all you have created.

For more than a generation, the world has spoken of the Middle East. Few have shown the world the Middle East as it truly is: its hospitality, its ambition, its skylines and shorelines, its heritage and its future. This letter is about an address that was made to do exactly that.

I. A Name That Belongs to the Region

TheMiddleEast.com is the region’s own name, written as the world types it. It is not a brand that must be explained or a slogan that must be learned. It is the exact address a traveler, an investor or a company reaches for when they first think of coming here.

Such a name can exist only once. It cannot be copied, rivaled or made again. In a world where attention is the rarest resource of all, the region’s own name is the most natural door through which the world can arrive.

TheMiddleEast.com is the first luxury gateway devoted to the whole region: one distinguished address for seventeen nations, from the Atlantic coast of Morocco to the shores of Oman.

II. Two Halves of One Story

TheMiddleEast.com is built on a single theme: Ultra-Luxury Tourism and Ultra-Luxury Real Estate, given equal care. Across the Middle East the two have become one story. The finest resorts and the finest homes now rise side by side, in integrated destinations where hospitality, branded residences, dining, wellness and entertainment are planned together.

A traveler who discovers a coastline or a skyline as a guest is, very often, a future owner. So every page of TheMiddleEast.com connects its two halves. Each place to stay leads to the places to own there, and each home leads back to the finest places to stay.

The benefit to the region is that the world’s spending comes to it. The benefit to the world is that it is shown, at last, where to spend.

III. The World’s Strongest Long-Term Growth Story

The region’s own figures show the scale of what lies ahead.

  • Travel and Tourism in the Middle East was worth US$386 billion in 2025, and is forecast to reach US$605 billion by 2036, growing about 6.3 percent a year. The World Travel & Tourism Council calls it the world’s strongest long-term growth story.
  • Saudi Arabia welcomed 122.6 million tourists in 2025, who spent SAR 303.7 billion, and aims for 150 million visits by 2030.
  • The UAE Tourism Strategy 2031 aims for 40 million hotel guests, AED 450 billion from tourism in the national economy and AED 100 billion in new tourism investment.
  • Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33 aims to double the size of Dubai’s economy by 2033.

TheMiddleEast.com stands beside these ambitions. Each guide, each page and each introduction is made to turn the world’s interest into the region’s growth.

IV. Who Waits on the Other Side

The largest consumer market on earth is now one address away from the Middle East.

  • The United States is home to about 4 percent of the world’s people, some 343 million of 8.2 billion, yet accounts for about one third of all household spending in the world.
  • American consumers spent more than US$20.8 trillion in 2025.
  • Americans made 107.7 million trips abroad in 2024, an increase of 9.2 percent in a single year.
  • Of Dubai’s 19.59 million international visitors in 2025, a record, 1.4 million came from the Americas: about 7 percent. The opportunity lives in that number.

This is the audience TheMiddleEast.com is written for: people with the means and the wish to travel, to own and to invest, who have not yet been given a single trusted place to begin.

V. Three Ways the World Arrives

Not every buyer arrives on holiday. TheMiddleEast.com welcomes all three, and introduces each of them to the finest Luxury Real Estate Agencies and Developers of the region.

  • The Traveler-Investor discovers a place as a guest, falls in love with it and returns to own a residence.
  • The Buyer from Abroad never boards a plane. Homes and projects are viewed by video, and the purchase is completed from home with a licensed agency, developer and lawyer, often through a power of attorney where the law allows.
  • The Institution, a fund, a family office or a company, buys whole floors, buildings and portfolios.

The region has opened its doors to them. Foreigners may now own homes in thirteen of the fourteen countries in our program, each under its own rules, and since January 22, 2026, in designated zones of Saudi Arabia as well.

VI. What Has Already Been Built

This is not a promise of something to come. It has already been built, with care, in the region’s colors of emerald and gold.

  • More than 440 pages, each written to answer a real question from a visitor discovering the region, and each linking the place to stay with the place to own.
  • Seventeen nations, with their great cities, resorts, islands, heritage and national visions.
  • Sixty-six Territories across fourteen countries, each with its own page, where up to three Founding Partner Luxury Real Estate Agencies and up to three Founding Partner Luxury Real Estate Developers stand side by side, with equal standing.
  • A guide, in every one of those countries, to what foreigners may own and how to buy, in person or from abroad.
  • A film, “The Middle East, in One Song,” and an original musical score.
  • A weekly Journal of good news, a daily desk for Luxury Real Estate and a monthly Spotlight, which opened with the Emirate of Fujairah.

VII. The Road Ahead

The site will grow each day and speak in more languages, with Arabic, Spanish, French and Portuguese editions planned. Its Journal and its daily desk will carry the region’s achievements to the world as they happen, and in every Territory its Founding Partners will welcome the visitors it brings, whether it is their first visit or their twenty-fifth, their first home in the region or their twenty-fifth.

The audience will grow over time; we would rather say so plainly than promise what we cannot yet show. What is certain is the foundation: the right name, the right purpose and a gateway built to last for decades.

VIII. A Letter from the Founder

I registered TheMiddleEast.com myself on April 30, 1999. Of the more than three thousand names I have registered in a career of nearly three decades, it is the only one I remember registering, because I understood even then what it could become.

I have kept it for the region ever since, through every change in the online world, because I believed that one day it would serve as the bridge between the Middle East and everyone outside it. That day has come.

It is my honor to place it in service of the region and its people, and to invite you to see what it is already doing.

With deep respect,

Keith E. Shanahan

The Founder

Keith E. Shanahan

Keith E. Shanahan registered TheMiddleEast.com himself, on April 30, 1999. Of the more than 3,000 domain names he has registered in 28 years, it is the one he remembers registering, and the one he always believed would matter most.

Since 1998 he has worked with one kind of asset: the exact name of a place. He is the Founder and CEO of The Digital Asset Advisors, which advises on premium geographic names, and he placed ThePalmBeaches.com with Palm Beach County’s tourism authority, Discover The Palm Beaches, which operates on that address to this day.

Today he leads The Middle East Company, which publishes TheMiddleEast.com. Connected with more than 16,000 professionals across the region, he is building it with one purpose: to bring the world to the Middle East, and the Middle East to the world.
