Why invest in Qatar

Qatar offers a compact, polished market with one of the lowest purchase costs in the region. The infrastructure built for the 2022 World Cup, including the Doha Metro and a string of new districts, has left Doha with modern neighborhoods ready to live in. See our guides to Doha luxury hotels and things to do and Lusail City.

The Qatar country guide covers the essentials for American visitors.

Who can buy property in Qatar

Ownership is registered with the Ministry of Justice, which runs a dedicated service for non-Qatari buyers.

Residency through Qatar property

Buying property worth at least QAR 730,000 (about $200,000) entitles the owner and family to a residence permit for as long as they own it, without a local sponsor. At QAR 3.65 million (about $1 million) and above, owners gain a residence permit with added privileges, including access to state health care and education.

How an American buys property in Qatar

How an American buys property in Qatar, step by step

1. Choose a designated area

3. Reserve and sign

Pay a reservation deposit and sign the sale agreement.

4. Register with the Ministry of Justice

Complete the transfer at the non-Qatari real estate office and pay the 0.25% fee.

Three ways to buy

Visit First, Buy from Abroad or Invest as an Institution

Not every buyer arrives on holiday. Whichever way you buy, every buyer is pointed to a licensed Luxury Real Estate Agency or Developer in the Territory.

I. Visit first, then buy

Many buyers discover a place as guests, return to view homes in person and buy on a later visit. Our guides to resorts, flights and cities help plan the journey.

II. Buy without boarding a plane

Many international buyers own before they ever visit. They view homes and projects by video and virtual tour, work with a licensed agency, developer and lawyer, and sign and pay from home, often through a power of attorney where the law allows.

III. Invest as an institution

Funds, family offices and companies buy whole floors, buildings and portfolios. Tell us your mandate and we will point you to developers and agencies with the scale and investor relations to match.

Rules for foreign buyers differ by country and change over time; confirm them with a lawyer before you commit. Leading Luxury Real Estate law firms and lenders, country by country. Register your interest.
