Two of Casablanca's best-known city hotels are part of a new $250 million financing package, a clear sign of confidence in Morocco's Atlantic capital as more travelers, investors and football fans look toward the country in the years ahead.
At a glance
On October 15, the advisory firm Zilla Capital announced that Pickalbatros Hotels & Resorts has secured a $250 million sustainability-linked financing package from the International Finance Corporation, the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group, together with Attijariwafa bank, one of Morocco's leading lenders. The funds support the group's recent purchase of two familiar Casablanca addresses, the Sofitel Casablanca Tour Blanche and the Mövenpick Hotel Casablanca, along with improvements at its hotels in Marrakech and Agadir and the refinancing of existing debt.
Pickalbatros already operates more than 2,700 rooms across nine hotels in Morocco, and the adviser describes the deal as the largest IFC-backed hospitality financing in the country to date. No details or timings for work at the individual hotels have been announced, so for now the story is one of ownership and long-term commitment rather than closures or reopenings.

Why Casablanca matters
For most Americans, Casablanca is where a journey to Morocco begins. Royal Air Maroc flies nonstop from New York JFK in about seven hours, with further nonstops from Washington Dulles, Miami and Los Angeles, which makes the city the natural first night of any of our Morocco luxury vacations. It deserves more than a connection.
The Hassan II Mosque rises on its own platform above the Atlantic, and it is one of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslim visitors may enter on a guided tour. Behind it lies a downtown of white Art Deco and Neo-Moorish facades from the 1920s and 1930s, the Habous quarter with its pastry shops and crafts, and the oceanfront Corniche, where beach clubs fill on warm evenings. Our Casablanca guide covers the full city, from architecture walks to the best tables.
The city is mild all year thanks to the Atlantic, with spring, from April to June, and autumn, from September to November, the most pleasant seasons. West Coast travelers gained a new option in June 2026, when Royal Air Maroc began flying nonstop from Los Angeles three times a week, in about 11 hours. Casablanca is also the easiest base for a day trip to Rabat, Morocco's royal capital, with its Kasbah of the Udayas and the Hassan Tower.
Morocco's hotel momentum ahead
The Casablanca deal is part of a wider wave of investment. Morocco now has the second-largest hotel development pipeline in Africa, with 10,606 rooms across 75 projects, according to W Hospitality Group's annual pipeline report. With the FIFA World Cup 2030, Morocco co-hosts the tournament with Spain and Portugal, and new rail links, airport upgrades and stadiums are taking shape around the country.
For anyone who wants to visit Morocco, that momentum shows in a growing choice of hotels and easier travel between cities. The Al Boraq high-speed train reaches Rabat in under an hour and Tangier in about two, while Marrakech is under three hours away by train or road. A classic Morocco travel guide itinerary now pairs two nights in Casablanca with Marrakech's riads and a few days of golf and surf in Agadir and Taghazout.
