On October 12, Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism set out the highlights of its winter season of events in Abu Dhabi, and the list reads like an invitation to stay longer. Between now and the end of January, the capital will host contemporary art, live comedy, maritime and desert heritage, the last race of the Formula 1 year and the opening of a museum that has been two decades in the making.

For an American traveler, the timing is ideal. November to March brings warm days and soft evenings, and Etihad flies nonstop from six US cities. Our Abu Dhabi guide covers the city's hotels, dining and arrival, and the wider events calendar places these dates alongside the rest of the region.

Art, comedy and craft

October and November: art, comedy and craft

The season opens on Yas Island at Etihad Arena with Abu Dhabi Showdown Week, the city's UFC fight week, headlined by a trilogy bout on October 24, with open workouts and fan zones around the city. The arena also hosts the Abu Dhabi Comedy Season from October, with Russell Peters, Mo Amer, Maz Jobrani and Morgan Jay among the names announced so far.

From October 23, the Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial places new commissions in the garden city of Al Ain, then arrives in the capital from November 15, with works on view into 2027. The Traditional Handicrafts Festival runs from October 23 to November 11, with master artisans, live demonstrations and a cultural market.

Mid-November belongs to collectors. NOMAD Abu Dhabi, a fair of collectible design, contemporary art and architecture, takes over Terminal 1 of the old Abu Dhabi Airport from November 18 to 22. Frieze makes its Abu Dhabi debut at Manarat Al Saadiyat from November 19 to 22. On the Corniche, the Maritime Heritage Festival returns for its fifth year from November 20 to 29, with storytelling, artisans and coastal cooking.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

December: the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the Guggenheim

The Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix comes to the Yas Marina Circuit from December 3 to 6. After the racing, the Yasalam concerts bring Lewis Capaldi, Imagine Dragons, The Chainsmokers and The Script, and Anyma headlines the official after-party on December 4. Our Formula 1 guide explains grandstands, hospitality and how far ahead to book, and our Yas Island guide covers the hotels and theme parks around the track.

A few days later the focus shifts to Saadiyat Island. Culture Summit Abu Dhabi gathers thinkers and artists at Manarat Al Saadiyat and across the cultural district from December 8 to 10, under the theme Towards a Reimagined Commons. Then, on December 11, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi opens its doors. Designed by the late Frank Gehry and devoted to modern and contemporary art, it joins the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum and the Natural History Museum in the Saadiyat Cultural District.

Desert and heritage

Desert and heritage into the new year

Each December, the Liwa International Festival fills the desert of Al Dhafra around Tal Moreeb, the country's tallest dune, with motorsports, music, family entertainment and a heritage village. Dates for this year's edition have not yet been announced.

The season closes in the heart of the city with the Al Hosn Festival, planned for January 15 to 30, 2027, at the Al Hosn Cultural Site, a celebration of Emirati traditions, crafts and food. Between events, there are plenty of other things to do in Abu Dhabi: the Al Ain Museum and the Natural History Museum both mark their first year since opening, and Saadiyat Nights returns for a fourth season of open-air concerts.
