Why fly privately to the Gulf

Few places in the world are as ready for private aviation as the Gulf. Dubai World Central was planned with business aviation at its heart, Abu Dhabi has a dedicated executive airport at Al Bateen, and Riyadh, Jeddah, Doha and Muscat all have private terminals where arrival takes minutes rather than an hour. For travelers combining Dubai with Riyadh, AlUla or the Red Sea, a private jet to Dubai and onward turns a complex itinerary into an easy one.

From the United States, the newest ultra-long-range aircraft, such as the Gulfstream G700 and G800 and the Bombardier Global 7500 and 8000, fly from the East Coast to the Gulf nonstop, and from Los Angeles with a full cabin and good weather. Smaller jets make one fuel stop, usually in Europe, Shannon or the Azores.

Plan the ground side too: see our guide to FBOs and private terminals, helicopter transfers and chauffeurs on arrival.

Practical notes

Charter quotes in the Gulf are usually in US dollars. During peak weeks, including the Abu Dhabi and Saudi Grand Prix weekends, New Year's Eve in Dubai and major events in Riyadh, aircraft and parking slots fill early, so book well ahead; our Formula 1 guide lists the dates.

Entry rules are the same as for airline passengers: check visa requirements for your passport before flying. Your operator files the permits for landing and overflight, which can take a few days for some countries.
