Private dining in Dubai

Private dining in Dubai and the Gulf

Entertaining at home is at the heart of Gulf life, and the region's best chefs know it. Many villas on Palm Jumeirah, Saadiyat Island or Jumeirah Bay come with a kitchen built for a professional, and the leading hotels will send their own culinary teams out for private events. On the water, superyacht charters routinely include a chef who shops the fish market each morning.

You have three good routes: book through your hotel or villa company, which can supply vetted chefs and staff; hire one of the established luxury caterers below; or ask a favorite restaurant, since many of the region's MICHELIN-starred restaurants offer private events and chef's tables.

How to find a private chef

How to find a private chef, city by city

Approaches and services that consistently deliver at the top level.

Your hotel's private dining team

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh

The great hotels of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Riyadh run in-house private dining and outside catering, often led by the same chefs as their signature restaurants. The simplest choice when staying at a five-star hotel in Dubai or nearby.

Villa concierge and estate managers

Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Marrakech, Bodrum

Luxury villa companies arrange a resident chef as part of a stay, from breakfast through to dinner parties. Ask for a sample menu and the chef's background before you book; see our guide to private villa rentals.

Yacht catering

Dubai Marina, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Bodrum

Charter brokers staff larger yachts with experienced chefs; for day charters, many caterers deliver to the marina. Plan menus with the captain for galley size and provisioning, and read our superyacht charter guide.

Restaurant chefs for private events

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul

Several leading restaurants in Dubai and Istanbul will cook for private dinners or close the dining room for a party. Approach the restaurant directly with your date and guest count.

Desert and dune dinners

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, AlUla, Wadi Rum, Merzouga

Camps and safari operators can stage a private Arabian dinner under the stars, with a chef cooking over open fire. Best from October to April; see luxury desert experiences.

Riad chefs in Morocco

Marrakech and Fes, Morocco

The best riads in Marrakech and Fes employ their own cooks, many trained in family kitchens, who will prepare tagines, pastilla and a full Moroccan feast for a private party on the roof terrace.

Istanbul and Bodrum, Türkiye

In Istanbul and on the Bodrum peninsula, private chefs and villa teams cook meze, grilled fish and Ottoman palace dishes for terrace dinners and yacht days.

Hotel banqueting teams

Royal and wedding-scale caterers

Across the Gulf

Gulf weddings can run to many hundreds of guests with separate halls; specialist caterers and hotel teams manage traditional Arabic menus, sweets and coffee service alongside international cuisine. See luxury weddings in the Middle East.

Questions about hiring

Questions about hiring a private chef in Dubai

How much does a private chef cost in Dubai?

As a rough guide, approximately $150 to $500 or more per guest for a multi-course dinner, depending on the chef's profile, menu and ingredients. Service staff, rentals and drinks are usually extra.

Can a private chef serve alcohol?

In the UAE, alcohol can be served at private residences and licensed venues; a licensed caterer or your hotel should handle purchase and service. Rules differ elsewhere in the region, so ask in advance.

Is everything halal?

In the Gulf, meat is halal by default. Tell the chef about vegetarian, kosher-style, allergy or other requirements when you book.

How far ahead should I book?

Two to four weeks in the winter season, and several months for weddings, large parties or dates around New Year and Eid.

Hosting at home in the Gulf

Arab hospitality has its own rhythm: coffee and dates on arrival, generous platters, and dessert and tea long into the evening. A good chef will build this into the menu; read more in our pages on the majlis and Arab hospitality and Arabic coffee and dates.

Many owners of homes in the region keep a chef or catering team on call. If that life appeals, our guide to Dubai property and the golden visa is a good place to begin.
