Superyacht Charter in the Middle East

A superyacht charter in the Middle East opens waters few travelers see: Dubai's skyline and Abu Dhabi's islands in winter, the fjords of Musandam, the reefs of the Saudi Red Sea, and the Turkish Riviera in summer. Here is when to go, where, and whom to call for a luxury yacht charter.

Why charter a superyacht

Why charter a superyacht in the Middle East

The Gulf has become one of the world's great winter yachting grounds. From November to March the sea is calm, the light is soft, and a yacht can lunch off the Palm, swim at an Abu Dhabi sandbank and watch the sunset over the Louvre's dome in a single day. Dubai and Abu Dhabi now host many of the largest yachts afloat, served by world-class marinas and refit yards.

Farther afield, the Musandam peninsula of Oman offers dramatic fjords and quiet coves, and Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast, with its new resorts and the island marina of Sindalah, is opening some of the least-sailed coral waters on earth. In summer the fleet moves to Türkiye, where the Turquoise Coast from Bodrum to Göcek is a classic for both modern yachts and handcrafted gulets.

Rates, permits and practical

Rates, permits and practical points

Indicative rates only: a 30 to 40 meter yacht in the Gulf typically charters from about $100,000 to $200,000 a week; a 50 to 60 meter yacht from about $250,000 to $500,000; the largest yachts command well over $1 million a week. Day charters of smaller luxury yachts in Dubai start at a few thousand dollars. Add an advance provisioning allowance, often 25 to 35 percent of the base rate, plus taxes and a crew gratuity.

Cruising between countries requires permits and crew documentation; your broker and captain arrange these. Many guests fly in privately: see private jet charter and arriving privately.

Owners who base a yacht in the Gulf often keep a home ashore too. Our guide to Dubai luxury property explains the market and the golden visa.

Questions

Superyacht charter questions

When is the best time for a yacht charter in Dubai?

October to April, when temperatures are comfortable and the sea is generally calm. Summer charters are possible but best kept to early mornings and evenings.

Can I charter a yacht in the Saudi Red Sea?

Yes. Saudi Arabia has opened its Red Sea coast to yachting, with new marinas and permit procedures; use a broker experienced in the area.

What is the difference between a crewed yacht and a gulet in Türkiye?

A gulet is a traditional wooden Turkish motor-sailer, often beautifully finished and well suited to the bays of the Turquoise Coast; a modern superyacht offers more speed, space and toys.
