This guide covers the best luxury hotels in Limassol and how to plan a luxury vacation on the island's south coast.

Why go
With more than 320 days of sunshine a year, Limassol has become the Mediterranean's quiet success story. Its long seafront promenade links the marina and the old town to a coast of luxury resorts, and its streets mix tavernas and medieval stone with glass towers and international restaurants. Behind the city, the foothills of the Troodos Mountains hide wine villages that have produced the sweet Commandaria wine since the time of the Crusaders.
Limassol is also a natural base for exploring the island's history, from the ancient city of Kourion to the medieval castle where, by tradition, Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre. Our Cyprus luxury vacations guide covers the whole island.

Spring and early autumn are ideal, with warm seas and comfortable days. July and August are hot and sunny, perfect for the beach. Winter is mild, with sunny days in the 60s °F, and suits golf, hiking and wine touring; in January and February you can even ski on Mount Olympus in the Troodos.
There are no nonstop flights from the US; most travelers connect through a European hub such as London, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, Athens or Zurich. Larnaca International Airport (LCA) is about 45 minutes away and Paphos (PFO) about 50 minutes. Private jets use both airports, and superyachts berth at Limassol Marina. See private jet charter and marinas.

Things to do
Stroll the Molos seafront park to the marina, browse the old town and the medieval castle, and visit the ancient city-kingdom of Kourion, with its theater on a cliff above the sea and its fine Roman mosaics. Drive into the hills to the wine villages of Omodos and Lofou, visit the monasteries of the Troodos, and taste Commandaria at its source.
The coast is ideal for sailing, diving and paddleboarding, and Limassol has fine golf within easy reach. See our pages on golf, superyacht charter and beach clubs.
Paphos, about 50 minutes west, has UNESCO-listed mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings, with the beaches of Latchi and the Akamas Peninsula beyond. Larnaca and the Church of Saint Lazarus are 45 minutes east. Nicosia, the capital, known in Greek as Lefkosia and in Turkish as Lefkoşa, is an hour inland. Across the water, Beirut and Tel Aviv are less than an hour away by air.
Luxury property and residency
Limassol is the island's leading luxury property market, with seafront towers, marina residences and villas in the hills drawing buyers from across Europe, the Middle East and beyond. Cyprus is an EU member and offers a well-established permanent residency route for non-EU buyers who purchase new property above a set threshold, currently from about €300,000 (around $340,000, approximate).
